Berlin, I Love You
Recently, I joined ten other international directors who were asked to tell ten short stories that made up the feature length film, BERLIN, I LOVE YOU. My story was about a man (Jim Sturgess) who comes to Berlin to drink himself to death. He falls in love with the car that saved his life. I made the central character a photographer so that I could do all the stills for the film. I also decided that it was about a time in someone’s life when they ‘die’ and become ‘regenerated’. Inspiration was to be the barometer for his state, and his photography was the measure of that. Once he recovers the eye, the vital viewpoint, that makes him an artist, he is reborn.
